We all love opera, right? But sometimes, our wallet? Not so much. The powers that be at the Metropolitan Opera feel our pain, so that's why they've put together this end-of-summer HD festival, in which some of our classic and contemporary operatic faves are shown on a ginormous screen on the Metropolitan Opera House facade. And it's free!
Just head to Lincoln Center over this weekend and try to nab one of the 2,500 seats. No advance tickets or registration is required and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. (Get there an hour early for the best seats.) The show will go on rain or shine, although heavy thunderstorms will definitely put a kibosh on the evening.
Here's what will be shown each night:
— Thursday, September 1, at 8pm: Donizetti’s La Fille du Régiment
— Friday, September 2, at 8pm: Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor
— Saturday, September 3, at 8pm: Massenet’s Cinderella
— Sunday, September 4, at 8pm: Puccini’s Turandot
— Monday, September 5, at 7:30pm: Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up in My Bones
Enjoy your Labor Day weekend, everyone!
