Open Streets!

Posted June 5, 2020

One thing cool that the city is doing during these trying times, is closing certain streets off from cars so folks can roam comfortably six feet apart, and adults and kids alike can ride their bikes, zoom on their skateboards or simply take a leisurely, safe stroll.

The city is opening 40 miles of streets to allow for greater social distancing during the COVID-19 crisis, and plans to expand to a total of 100 miles.

Open streets are, in most instances, available daily, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. No through traffic will be permitted, and vehicular traffic will be limited to open deliveries, pick-ups or drop-offs, necessary city service vehicles, plus utility and emergency vehicles.

FYI in our 'hood, on every Sunday throughout the summer, these streets will become shared streets from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.:

University Place/Washington Square East between West 4th and East 13th

and

Macdougal St/Washington Square West between West 4th and West 8th.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
