Autumn brings us killer apple crisps, heavenly spiced pumpkin pies and...cider! This week (November 8 through the 17th) is Cider Week here in the city.
The Hudson Valley up north is a noted farming community, and this event connects the purveyors to the top restaurants, bars and retail shops around the region.
Fans of autumn's most popular drink can expect cider-centric tastings, dinners and more--and many events are free.
Here are a few that struck our eye:
We've all been to a zillion wine and cheese pairings, but for something different, head to Murray's Cheese right by here on Bleecker St. tomorrow from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. for a hard cider and cheese pairing. Tickets are $85.
On Sunday, the Brooklyn Cider House will host a 5-course cider pairing dinner from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Chef Peter Yi has invited four local producers to discuss the ins and outs of the cider making process while guests delightedly chow down.
Next Wednesday, November 13th, head to Saxelby Cheesemongers in the Chelsea Market for a tasting of Original Sin Ciders from 2:30 to 5:30. Admission is free.
The next evening, Brewery Ommegang will be pouring free samples of their two new ciders at Lillie's Victorian Establishment on the Upper East Side from 6 to 9 p.m. More free samples can be had from the Abandoned Cider Tasting at City Swiggers, also on the Upper East Side from 6:00 to 9:00.
These are only a few of the available events--head here to see all of them and purchase tickets.
