We all love New York City. Whether you live here, or visit often (which we hope you do), there's no place quite like it.
So the fine folks at the Museum of the City of New York (Fifth Ave. & 103rd St.) have put together an exhibit celebrating our fair town: This Is New York: 100 Years of the City in Art and Pop Culture, which explores the many ways the city has inspired storytelling across art forms.
You'll see New York depicted in film and television, visual and performing arts, music, poetry, fashion and literature.
Thousands of cinematic NY moments are shown throughout sixteen screens, with beloved artifacts on hand, like Carrie's iconic tutu from Sex & The City, and the Sesame Street lamppost. An interactive installation highlights the music of New York (hip-hop! jazz! salsa!). Life in New York--at home and in the city's streets and subways--is depicted by various artists.
The exhibition bares all on New York: the good, the bad, and the always-interesting.
The exhibition runs through June 21st, and admission is $20 for adults, $14 for seniors and students if you buy online; pay-what-you-wish at the door. Oh--and everyone under 20 gets in free! Hours are Thursday from 10 AM to 9PM and Fridays through Mondays from 10 AM to 5 PM.
