Lincoln Center is back with Summer for the City, the best outdoor summer festival the city has to offer for New Yorkers and visitors alike.
The organizers have set up over 200 free or pay-what-you-wish events from June 11th through August 9th. You can expect dance parties, outdoor concerts, jazz nights, film screenings, and story times for the little ones. Get down on social dance nights (mambo, ballroom, The Lindy, to name a few) and silent discos under a ginormous 10-foot-wide disco ball. Comedy will come courtesy of Danielle Perez, Saturday Night Live folks, Marcus Russell and others.
Some highlights:
The BAAND Together Dance Festival, in which five of NYC's most iconic dance companies (Ballet Hispánico, New York City Ballet, and others) reunite on one stage in July and August.
The American Modern Opera Company, a troupe of musicians and dancers, will make its Lincoln Center debut, performing the New York premiere of "The Comet/Poppea," which pairs George Lewis's adaptation of W.E.B. Dubois's story "The Comet" and Monteverdi's "L'Incoronazione di Poppea" in June.
Brazil Week (July 16-30), a vibrant, two-week celebration of Brazilian culture.
The Duck Down 30th Anniversary Show, in which Duck Down Music, home for many of NYC's top hip-hop artists celebrates their milestone with a blow-out concert party on July 5th.
A rotating cast of food trucks will be on hand, including one from superstar Caribbean chef Kwame Onwuachi's Tatiana.
Most events are free or pay-what-you-wish, with a suggested ticket price of $35. Make sure to grab your tickets in advance, though. They'll be available starting this Thursday.
