Metropolitan Opera

The Metropolitan Opera Heads Outdoors

July 12, 20251 min read

Head to Lincoln Center for our favorite end-of-summer tradition here in New York City.

Opera used to be an art enjoyed solely by the well-heeled. The Metropolitan Opera wants to share the love, and so schedules HD screenings of eleven classic and contemporary operas each year, airing right on the facade of the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center.

And it's free, people!

Here's the schedule:

  • Friday, August 22, at 8pm: A screening of the film Maestro, starring Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan

  • Saturday, August 23, at 8:00pm: Verdi's Aida

  • Sunday, August 24, at 8:00 pm: Beethoven's Fidelio

  • Monday, August 25, at 8:00 pm: Strauss's Salome

  • Tuesday, August 26, at 7:30 pm: Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro

  • Wednesday, August 27, at 8:00 pm: Jeanine Tesori's Grounded

  • Thursday, August 28, at 7:30 pm: Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann

  • Friday, August 29, at 8:00 pm: Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas

  • Saturday, August 30, at 8:00 pm: Puccini’s Tosca

  • Sunday, August 31, at 7:30 pm: Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia

  • Monday, September 1, at 8:00 pm: Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West

The show will go on, rain or shine, except in the case of thunderstorms. Seating is on a first come, first served basis, so get there early to nab one. (You can also bring your own chair if you'd like.) And have no fear, the presentations will include full open captions.

It really is a wonderful evening, so check it out!
