Head to Lincoln Center for our favorite end-of-summer tradition here in New York City.
Opera used to be an art enjoyed solely by the well-heeled. The Metropolitan Opera wants to share the love, and so schedules HD screenings of eleven classic and contemporary operas each year, airing right on the facade of the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center.
And it's free, people!
Here's the schedule:
Friday, August 22, at 8pm: A screening of the film Maestro, starring Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan
Saturday, August 23, at 8:00pm: Verdi's Aida
Sunday, August 24, at 8:00 pm: Beethoven's Fidelio
Monday, August 25, at 8:00 pm: Strauss's Salome
Tuesday, August 26, at 7:30 pm: Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro
Wednesday, August 27, at 8:00 pm: Jeanine Tesori's Grounded
Thursday, August 28, at 7:30 pm: Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann
Friday, August 29, at 8:00 pm: Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas
Saturday, August 30, at 8:00 pm: Puccini’s Tosca
Sunday, August 31, at 7:30 pm: Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia
Monday, September 1, at 8:00 pm: Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West
The show will go on, rain or shine, except in the case of thunderstorms. Seating is on a first come, first served basis, so get there early to nab one. (You can also bring your own chair if you'd like.) And have no fear, the presentations will include full open captions.
It really is a wonderful evening, so check it out!
