San Gennaro sign

Feast of San Gennaro!

September 05, 20241 min read

You don't have to be Catholic to enjoy this celebration of the patron saint of Naples, Italy, who was martyred in 305 AD. But you do have to love Italians and their food...and who doesn't? Neapolitans first settled on Mulberry Street in what would become New York's Little Italy at the turn of the century. New Yorkers of Italian descent have been organizing this block party to end all block parties since 1926, to pay homage not only to San Gennaro, but their cultures and traditions as well.

From Thursday, September 12th through Sunday, September 22nd, head to Mulberry Street between Canal and Houston Streets to chow down on sausage and peppers, zeppoles (those delectable balls of sugar-dusted fried dough), cannolis, pizza and more.

Entertainment mostly starts at 7 PM, and includes various Italian-American artists, including Eric DeLauro and the Rat Pack Band. Get up and show your stuff at the Karaoke Night, September 17th, or check out the parade on the 12th from 2:00 - 5:00 PM, led by the Grand Marshal, celebrity chef Anne Burrell.

Mangia, people!
