We dare you to go to this exhibition and not come away hungry.
I'll Have What She's Having: The Jewish Deli is the latest production from The New York Historical Society Museum and Library, and highlights that most iconic of New York joints, the Jewish deli. The show examines how Jewish immigrants, mostly from Central and Eastern Europe, imported and adapted traditions to create a uniquely American restaurant, and how it has since become an integral part of our food culture.
Knishes, bagels, pickles, babka, pastrami sandwiches...all are celebrated. Neon signs, antique cigarette machines (flashback!) and other vintage relics will be on hand. A miniature Katz's Deli! Clips from movies and television, like the infamous performance by Meg Ryan of the titular phrase in When Harry Met Sally (and, frankly, almost every Seinfeld episode). Costumes from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, one of our favorite deli hounds. Even an interactive build your own deli sandwich!
Tickets are $22 for adults, $17 for seniors, $13 for students and $6 for kids 5-13 (kids under five are free) and can be purchased here. Through April 2nd.
