It seems that the world is in love with Keanu Reeves. As of late, CNN has referred to the actor as both "a national treasure” and “the internet’s boyfriend,” thanks to the slew of heartwarming stories recently shared by fans who’ve had the pleasure of bumping into him over the years. He’s given up his seat on the subway for a woman carrying a heavy bag, purchased ice cream in order to have something to sign for a fan (the receipt), and taken a little extra time to talk with a fan in a wheelchair. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Keanu is as kind as he is beloved, seeing as his name literally means “cool breeze over the mountains” in Hawaiian. And while none of his observed acts of kindness are earth-shattering, there’s something endearing about his ordinary thoughtfulness. Beyond that, seeing a celebrity in their everyday life is always something of a revelation. Over thirty celebrities call the Village home, and because of that, you’re more likely to run into one than you are in virtually any other neighborhood in the country!

Jennifer Lawrence and Adele recently made headlines when they surprised the crowd at the Village bar Pieces. Apparently on a girls’ night out, the two partied with the rest of the bar’s patrons, throwing back drinks and dancing. Jennifer dominated Adele in a drinking game, and Adele gave Jennifer a hard time about being engaged. “I just partied with Jennifer Lawrence and Adele… I am speechless,” one Twitter user wrote.

Another Village institution got a surprise early this year when Madonna decided to grace the stage. Stonewall, the bar now widely considered ground zero for the gay civil rights movement, welcomed Madonna and her son David Banda to the stage, where the two performed “Like A Prayer” and Elvis’s, “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You.” No one in the bar knew the celeb was even coming to the venue, and the spontaneous surprise of the event added a feeling of magic in the room.

Spotting a celebrity is, in some ways, like spotting a shooting star; it happens when you least expect it.
