What's Happening in our Park?

What's Happening in our Park?

November 01, 20232 min read

Yeah, Washington Square Park is a great place to listen to buskers, enjoy a stimulating chess match or just watch the world go by. No doubt. But did you know that there are weekly programs that can teach you dance, drawing, Tai Chi, yoga...even double dutch? (Come on, you know you want to learn it!)
The Salsa Social takes place in Garibaldi Plaza every Tuesday evening. It kicks off with a class from 5-5:30 p.m. Stay through 8 p.m. to show off the moves you learned in class.

Head to the park on Wednesday mornings from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in Garibaldi Plaza to breath, move and stretch with Now Yoga!, an open-level vinyasa class. Don't forget to bring your own mat! Kids can join in the fun from 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays with children's yoga classes in the alcove across from the large playground. The little ones will stretch to songs, rhymes and more.

We've always wanted to learn to jump Double-Dutch, so we'll head to the Garibaldi Plaza on Thursdays from 5-6 p.m. to learn the fundamentals of street-style and competitive jump rope. Children of all ages-- even adults--are welcome.

Fans of straight-up fitness classes flock to Garibaldi Plaza on Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. for SaltDrop, a beat-driven, mat-based celebration of movement, which encompasses yoga and pilates with a cardio burn.

Tai Chi classes take the stage in Holley Plaza on Fridays between noon and 1 p.m.
And lastly, more sedentary (and creative) types will love the Drawing and Painting class that takes place in Holley Plaza on Friday afternoons from 1-2 p.m.

Note that all of these classes are free and participants at all levels are encouraged to attend. It's a great way to keep up your fitness routine while on vacation and get to know our Village neighbors. Head here for info on all of these classes.

Have a great weekend, friends!
