Head to Lincoln Center for our favorite end-of-summer tradition here in New York City.

Opera used to be an art enjoyed solely by the well-heeled. The Metropolitan Opera wants to share the love, and so schedules HD screenings of eleven classic and contemporary operas each year, airing right on the facade of the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center.

And it's free, people!

• Tuesday, August 27, at 8pm: Puccini’s La Rondine

• Wednesday, August 28, at 7:30pm: Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking

• Thursday, August 29, at 7:30pm: Mozart’s Don Giovanni

• Friday, August 30, at 7:30pm: Anthony Davis’s X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X

• Saturday, August 31, at 7:30pm: Bizet’s Carmen

• Sunday, September 1, at 7:30pm: Verdi’s La Forza del Destino

• Monday, September 2, at 8pm: Puccini’s Madama Butterfly

The show will go on, rain or shine, except in the case of thunderstorms. Seating is on a first come, first served basis, so get there early to nab one. (You can also bring your own chair if you'd like.) And have no fear, the presentations will include full open captions.
