McCartney Takes His Shot

July 12, 20241 min read

Did you know that Sir Paul McCartney was a bit of a shutterbug?

We've all seen amazing photographs of the Fab Four throughout the years, but this collection is courtesy the Cute Beatle himself. The exhibit, currently at the Brooklyn Museum, provides a more personal view of the band's rise--through his eyes, through his camera lens.

The 250 shots encompass the birth of Beatlemania in the UK and the States, chronicling their tour through New York City, Washington, DC and Miami.

Paul and his trusty 35-mm Pentax will take the viewer backstage and into their hotel rooms. Many shots focus on their fans (mostly screaming of course), and various people that were then in the band's orbit (family members, employees, girlfriends, fellow artists, even strangers through a car window). His three bandmates are of course heavily featured in candid photos where they're just being, well, themselves.

The exhibit also includes video clips and archival material of the time, and runs through August 18. Tickets are $20 for adults, $14 for seniors, care partners, students and folks with disabilities. Kids 19 and under are free.

It's certainly worth the short subway ride to Brooklyn!
