The organizers describe themselves as, "the drunken gurus of Village lore."
Nice.
The Literary Pub Crawl is the longest-running tour in the Village--for over 25 years. In 1998, a young theater company, The New Ensemble, was searching for a way to raise money for their inaugural production of Romeo and Juliet and decided that educating folks on the literary history around NYC over beers was just the ticket.
Local actors bring you to such stops as The White Horse Tavern, where, on the night he died, Dylan Thomas downed 18 drinks. (Some say his ghost still inhabits the tavern.) James Baldwin, Jack Kerouac and the Beat poets also spent time in this beloved NYC institution. Or Kettle of Fish, another favorite of Baldwin and the Beat Poets, along with Bob Dylan.
The guides are knowledgable on all things literary and NYC. The tour lasts three hours and takes place rain or shine. Tickets cost $49, and the crawl will require a mile of walking. (Wear comfy shoes!)
Don't forget to bring some cash to buy drinks!
