It's that time of year again!
And the stores have gone all out for the 2024 holiday windows.
Listen up:
Macy's established the practice of when it debuted an animated shop window in 1883. Their theme this year is "Gifts We Love", and focuses on the best part of the season--giving! Kids from the New York-area chapters of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program created hand-drawn ornaments that hang in two of the windows, all with the theme of giving back in mind. A peek in some windows will show elves hard at work, surrounded by lights, carousels, tons of presents and iconic NYC scenes. New this year? A selfie station, where visitors can take a photo and see it reflected behind a shiny Santa Claus, elves or a teddy bear. (Broadway and 34th)
While Macy's may have started the holiday-themed window craze, Saks Fifth Avenue introduced the tradition of annual unveilings. It's all about fashion this year, plus the retailer is, "honoring the architectural significance," of their building, with a glistening garland surrounding the whole structure. Luxury brands like Prada and Valentino will grace each of the twelve windows. (5th Ave. between 49th and 50th)
It feels like the whole world has gone Wicked-crazy, and Bloomingdale's has jumped on the bandwagon. Glinda and Elphaba are the stars this year, complete with Elphaba's black hat and Glinda's...pinkness. (59th St. between Third and Lexington)
Bergdorf Goodman's windows are celebrating one of the most beautiful streets in our city this year. "The Toast of the Town" highlights sights along the avenue: the shopping, the holiday parades, the taxicabs, even the New York Public Library. (Fifth Ave. and 58th)
