Baez and Dylan

Diamonds and Rust and Us

April 09, 20241 min read

Now I see you standing
With brown leaves falling around
And snow in your hair
Now you're smiling out the window
Of that crummy hotel
Over Washington Square
Our breath comes out white clouds
Mingles and hangs in the air
Speaking strictly for me
We both could have died then and there

That crummy hotel over Washington Square? That would be the Washington Square Hotel, featured prominently in Joan Baez's song Diamonds and Rust. Yeah, we were crummy once, around the time Joan and Bob Dylan were dating and he lived in room 305, circa 1964. Their romance may not have lasted, but their music lives on.

And we do, too. Thankfully, we're no longer run down, and we're proud of what we've done with the place.

Come and visit. We think you'll agree.
