Come Out & Play!

Come Out & Play!

November 07, 20231 min read

We don't know about you, but we love an old-fashioned--or in this case--new-fashioned game.

Saturday, July 20, head to DUMBO in Brooklyn for Come Out & Play, their annual afternoon of family friendly street games plus an evening of social and physical games for adults.

Basically the organizers want to turn New York City into a giant playground, and it looks like they'll succeed.

For the family-friendly games, check out Peas Please, in which participants ARE pea pods, full of peas. Participants must pop as many peas as they can into a basket within the allotted time. Fight Club is basically a huge paper plane fight. Don't Fear the Huevos is a new game based on old Mexican and Celtiberian/Galician traditions that combines the fun of an egg hunt and the playful smashing of traditionally-Mexican confetti eggs on one another's heads!

The After Dark festivities include eCheese Zone, described as "a crowd punishment party game," which features participants unraveling mysteries as a team. Bean Bag Team Tag is a cross between Capture the Flag and a backyard game of Catch. Ping Pong is taken up a notch with Spring Spring, in which paddlers are tasked to hit the ball when a light hits their side of the table.

These were just a sampling of the options--check out the whole shebang here. The family games run from 1 to 5 p.m. and the adult (18+) fun takes place between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Both can be found under the Dumbo Archway.
