Want to spend the perfect afternoon? Start with the High Line, our city's famous elevated park, now in its tenth year. Here's what you should do:

Start at the HL entrance at 30th St. and 11th Ave. Make your way downtown as you ogle the incredible flora of the moment: Mount Everest ornamental onions, twisted-leaf garlic, pagoda yellow dogtooth violet and more.

You're going to build up quite an appetite, especially after sniffing those onions and garlic, so head down to Chelsea Market (16th St.) and get ready to eat up. Amy's Bread, Bar Suzette Creperie, German street food Currywurst, Beyond Sushi, mozzarella sticks at Big Mozz and the Doughnuttery are just a few of the scratches that can satisfy your hunger itch.

Take a minute--or an hour--for some shopping! Women's clothing fave Anthropologie, and Artists & Fleas, a true find for tastemakers, can set you on trend. Check out Bowery Kitchen Supply, Imports from Marrakesh, hot sauce emporium Heatonist, Posman Books and supplier of all things Asian, New York institution Pearl River Mart.

Next, hop back on the High Line for dessert: At 15th St., La Newyorkina offers paletas, ice pops inspired by the chef's native Mexico.

You're stuffed. You've wiped the last of your paleta off your chin and snagged that Moroccan wedding blanket that you didn't know you needed, and it's the end of the (High) line.

Time for some culture!

The Whitney Museum of American Art sits at the foot of the High Line in the Meatpacking District. Currently, the Around Day's End: Downtown New York, 1970-1986 exhibition is showcasing works that explore downtown New York as site, history and memory. Open every day but Tuesday. Tickets cost $25 ($18 seniors and students; free 18 and under).
