Hey, it's cold outside!
So take a break from sightseeing by heading indoors for the Winter Film Festival. It's the 13th year for this program, which places a special emphasis on highlighting the work of under-represented filmmakers. The event runs from February 19 - February 23, and everyone's sure to find a flick they're interested in.
87 films from all around the world will be showcased this year: documentaries, dramas, animated films, horror films and music videos.
The list includes 14 student films and 29 from first-time directors. In addition, more than half of the films were made by women and directors of color.
Some highlights:
Documentary Day on February 22, with docs scheduled all day.
Bloody Saturday Night Horror, also on the 22nd, with 14 films from 7 countries guaranteed to scare the beejezus out of you.
$5 short film matinees on the 20th and 21st.
Four films from Spain on the 20th.
Plus five short film blocks each day from the 20th through the 22nd.
Screenings take place in midtown, at the LOOK Dine-In Cinemas, and tickets are $12.50 in advance/$16 at the door. Students pay only $5. In general, you'll find a mix of shorts and feature-length films plus a 20-minute Q&A session with the filmmakers.
